I began crocheting EXPANDING MIND when protests across the United States erupted in reaction to George Floyd’s death by Minneapolis police officers. This piece of art is a brain filled with symbols and messages of hope depicting the meaning of this particular time in history. I hung it on the fence around Lafayette Square at Black Lives Plaza on June 11, 2020. EXPANDING MIND is now part of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington DC.
