I began crocheting EXPANDING MIND when protests across the United States began in reaction to George Floyd’s death by Minneapolis police officers. This piece of art is a brain filled with symbols and messages of hope depicting the meaning of this particular time in history. I hung it on the fence around Lafayette Square at Black Lives Plaza on June 11, 2020. There was so much inspiring art being hung on the fences at that time, the Smithsonian National Museum collected some of it. EXPANDING MIND is one of those pieces.
